Northern Michigan Doesn’t Slow Down for Winter
Some of our best guest stories come from the winter months. Once the snow settles in, Northern Michigan turns into a completely different kind of playground, and staying with a family who lives here year-round means you get the real rundown on where to go.
Skiing and Snowboarding
The hills around Gaylord and Boyne hold some of the best downhill terrain in the Midwest, with runs for everyone from first-timers to guests chasing steeper lines. Several of our properties are a short drive from the lifts, so you can be on the mountain not long after breakfast.
Snowmobile Country
This part of the state is serious snowmobile territory, with groomed trail systems connecting towns across the region. A handful of our homes have direct trail access, which our snowmobiling guests tell us is close to the top of their wish list when booking a winter trip.
Ice Fishing and Quiet Lakes
Otsego Lake, Dixon Lake, and the countless inland lakes scattered across the region freeze into some of the best ice fishing spots in the state. It’s a slower, quieter way to spend a winter day, and one that regulars come back for year after year.
Warm It Back Up
After a day in the cold, our properties are built to help you thaw out — fireplaces, hot tubs at select homes, and kitchens ready for a big pot of something warm. It’s the kind of contrast that makes a Northern Michigan winter trip so memorable: hard outdoor days followed by genuinely cozy nights.
